World Soil Day 2024

The International Union of Soil Science (IUSS) has announced the December 05, 2024 as World Soil Day in August 2002 during their 17th world congress. This shall annually stress the importance of soil as a valuable resource. Soil means the upper part of the earth crust which is literally always biologically active.

Soil is the central livelihood for all plants and animals on our planet. The microorganisms living inside the soil play an important role for the pedogenic development of it. By geological and historical means soils are valuable archives, which are often threatened by exploitation and natural processes: it needs to be investigated before it will be gone.
