World Seagrass Day, celebrated on March 01, 2025, was officially adopted by the United Nations in 2022 to annually raise awareness about the ecological importance of seagrass. These underwater meadows play a crucial role in mitigating climate change by capturing carbon dioxide and providing habitats for marine life. However, seagrass beds are increasingly threatened by human activity and environmental changes.

World Seagrass Day calls for collaborative efforts to conserve and restore seagrass ecosystems. Governments, researchers, and communities are encouraged to participate in activities such as coastal clean-ups, research initiatives, and awareness campaigns to protect these vital habitats.
