World Kiswahili Language Day 2025

Since language represents more than communication, UNESCO honors one of the world's most widely spoken languages with World Kiswahili Language Day on July 07, 2025. Kiswahili, or Swahili is also the most widely spoken language in sub-Saharan Africa, with over 200 million speakers. "Hakuna matata" from "The Lion King," by the way, is Kiswahili and translates to "no problems."

World Kiswahili Language Day highlights Kiswahili’s role in fostering cultural identity and unity across diverse communities. It also emphasizes the importance of promoting multilingualism for global understanding and inclusivity.
