April 09, 2025 is Vimy Ridge Day! Since 2003 Canada observes this day as a commemoration of the Battle of Vimy Rice. This is not a public holiday, so there are no main celebrations taking place, but the Canadian flag is on half-mast on the Peace Tower of Parliament Day in Ottawa. The three days Battle of Vimy Ridge took place in April 1917 in Pas-de-Calais in France.
Back then the Canadian Army fought against the Nazi-German Army and won. It was Canada’s first all four formation combat in their military history and gained an important role for the building of Canada’s nationhood. The National Vimy Ridge monument is Canada’s greatest and serves also as a commemorative war monument for other victims of war.
