Bulgaria celebrates National Unification Day on September 06, 2025. It is a national holiday to commemorate the unification of the principality of Bulgaria and the Ottoman province of Eastern Rumelia in 1885. After the Russian-Turkish War, Bulgaria was fragmented by the Berlin Treaty of 1878. In 1885 rebels began to march from Golyamo Konare to Plovdiv and captured the city on September 6.
Governor General Gavril Krastevich was overthrown, a temporary government was formed, and Eastern Rumelia became part of Bulgaria. The Bulgarian Unification Day is celebrated throughout the nation with ceremonies, fireworks, memorial services, and the traditional memorial marathon.
