UN Russian Language Day is celebrated on June 06, 2025. The United Nations marks the birthday of Alexander Pushkin, recognized as the father of Russian literature. UN Russian Language Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2010. Also in 2010 the initiative of the UN Language Days was launched.
Russian is near Arabic, Chinese, English, French and Spanish one of the UN working languages. The UN Language Days and thus the UN Russian Language Day underlines the importance of multilingualism and cultural diversity. Russian is the most widely spoken Slavic language.
