Taiwan Retrocession Day takes place on October 25, 2025 and is an unofficial holiday in Taiwan in East Asia. Taiwan is actually the Republic of China, and they celebrate Retrocession Day as the anniversary date of the end of the Japanese rule. For 50 years from 1895 until 1945 the Japanese Empire ruled the island as they had won the First Sino-Japanese War. Then it was handed over to the Republic of China. Retrocession Day is celebrated joyfully in the Republic of China. They decorate houses with their national flag and hold festive ceremonies to commemorate the liberation of Taiwan from the Japanese rule.
