St. Mark's Day is celebrated on April 25, 2025. Saint Mark's Day is a festival in Venice celebrating Venice's patron saint, St. Mark and it is called Festa di San Marco or Festa del Bocolo, which means Rosebud Festival. On this day, men traditionally give a single rosebud to the woman they love. That custom goes back to an 8th century legend according to which a low class man once was in love with a lady from Venice. He tried to persuade her father about his true love by fighting in a combat. That man died and all that was returned from him was a blood stained rose he picked from the battlefield when he lay there dying.
