Rotuma Day is celebrated on May 13, 2025 on a Fijian dependency called Rotuma, the home of a unique indigenous ethnic group, called the Rotumans. The annual holiday commemorates the cession of Rotuma to the United Kingdom on May 13, 1881. Today Rotuma is an island group consisting of the main island Rotuma Island and several small islets. After Fiji’s independence from the uK in 1970 Rotuma remained with Fiji and became the dependency it is today. The festivities of Rotuma Day culminate in fine traditional performances and craft show.
