Remembrance of the Dead is observed on May 04, 2025 and is held annually as Dodenherdenking in the Netherlands. It is a day to honor the victims of war since World War II. At first Remembrance of the Dead as a commemoration for especially the dead from the Kingdom of Netherlands in World War II but since 1961 others are commemorated, too.
There are two minutes of silence held in the Netherlands on Remembrance of the Dead. The royal family, military and many more meet in Amsterdam for a ceremony. The national anthem of the Netherlands is sung and all flags fly at halfmast. Remembrance of the Dead takes place one day before Liberation Day or Bevrijdingsdag, a national day in the Netherlands to celebrate the liberation from Nazi Germany in 1945.
