Occupation of the Latvian Republic Day takes place on June 17, 2025 and is an official day of remembrance in Latvia since 2000. It recalls the Soviet occupation of Latvia in 1940. Back then the Soviet Army came to Latvia and transformed the country into a part of the Soviet Army.
Thousands of people had been deported or killed during the occupation which had been arranged with Germany in 1939, secretly. So the Occupation of the Latvian Republic Day is sad day of commemorating the cruel and awful period of time when the Soviets reigned over Latvia. Latvia is one of the three Baltic States in Northern Europe with its capital city Riga.
