Norwegian Constitution Day is celebrated on May 17, 2025. It is a a national public holiday in Norway where it is called syttende mai, Nasjonaldagen or Grunnlovsdagen. That is Norwegian for May, 17, for National Day and Constitution Day. The Norwegian Constitution Day is mostly shaped by young children and not the military as one might expect. There are parades with music bands and flags stopping by at war monuments.
On the Norwegian Constitution Day they celebrate the signing of the Norwegian Constitution in 1814. That took place in Eidsvoll and from that day on Norway was no longer depending on Sweden. It were students who first celebrated the date. Children’s parades exist since 1864. The royal family is also honored with the Norwegian Constitution Day.
