National Day of Sweden takes place on June 06, 2025. The day is a national holiday observed in Sweden every year. In 1983 the Swedish Flag Day (Svenska flaggans dag) was turned into the National Day of Sweden by the Riksdag. On this day Swedish folk music and dances are performed, military and civil parades are organized and people wave Swedish flags or wear yellow and blue clothes.
The Swedish Royals also show up on the National Day of Sweden and get in touch with the public. June 6th was picked because the election of King Gustav Vasa in 1523 took place on that date. With his reign the Swedish people associate the birth of modern Sweden.
