In Canada National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism is observed on June 23, 2025. This day commemorates the anniversary of the bombing of Air India Flight 182 off the coast of Ireland, which took place in June 1985. On National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism, flags across Canada are flown at half-mast. This way, all victims of the bombing should be honored, but also all other acts of terrorist violence, that have taken lives of Canadians, should be remembered.
Air India flight 182 was operating en route Montreal-London-Delhi. About 120 miles offshore of County Cork, Ireland, the Boeing 747-237B was destroyed by a bomb, hidden in a suitcase in the cargo compartment. The plane fell in the Atlantic Ocean and 329 people died, among them 268 Canadians. National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism takes place annually.
