In the United States Military Spouse Day takes place on May 09, 2025, which is the Friday before Mother's Day. The day is celebrated annually and is also known as Military Spouse Appreciation Day. President Ronald Reagan declared this day in 1984 in order to recognize the importance of spouse commitment to the well-being of military members. The day was first observed on May 23, 1984. However, it was Caspar Weinberger, then US Secretary of Defense, who standardized the date by declaring the Friday before Mother's Day as Military Spouse Day. Today the US president holds a ceremonial speech on that special holiday.
