On March 22, 2020 Muslims worldwide celebrate the Leilat al-Meiraj, also known as The Prophet's Ascension. Due to the Gregorian solar calendar, the date varies each year compared to the Islamic lunar calendar, according to which the journey takes place on the night of the 27th of Rajab. This journey is one of the wonders of Muhammad, which was a gift by Allah. He wanted to show the prophet some signs to demonstrate his power in the universe. Allah led Muhammad in one night from Mecca to Jerusalem and then to heaven and back.
To celebrate this significant day for the Muslim culture, various meat dishes and desserts are prepared. By sharing the food with the poor and needy, these people are also included in the celebrations. Another part of the tradition is to ask Allah for forgiveness, and to praise him and the Prophet Muhammad. In some Muslim countries, it is common that employees get the day after these celebrations off, which gives them the opportunity to relax after a day of prayer and worship, as those events last until late into the night.
