In Hawai'i the public holiday called Kamehameha Day is observed on June 11, 2025. The day honors the monarch Kamehameha the Great, who established the unified Kingdom of Hawai'i, consisting of the islands named Maui, Moloka'i, O'ahu, Hawai'i, Kaua'i, L'na'i, N'ihau, and Kaho'olawe.

Kamehameha Day was first proclaimed by Kamehameha V, the grandson of Kamehameha the Great, on December 22, 1871. The day aims to honor the man who established the Kingdom of Hawai'i. The day was first observed in 1872, and proclaimed as a public holiday in 1959 by the Governor of Hawai'i and the Hawai'i State Legislature. 1959 was the year, Hawaiʻi achieved statehood. A floral parade is held annually at various locations throughout the state of Hawaii. Today, there are several celebrations during Kamehameha Day. On top, the King Kamehameha Hula Competition attracts hula groups from all over the world.
