Juneteenth, a combination of June and Nineteenth, is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S. and is observed on June 19, 2025. On January 01, 1863, President Lincoln delivered the Emancipation Proclamation, which declared that all persons held as slaves are, and henceforward shall be free. Due to the really slow information flow those days, the news received Texas not until June 19, 1865. Informally Juneteenth was celebrated annually since 1865, but on June 03, 1979 Juneteenth became an official state holiday in Texas. Juneteenth is a day to celebrate freedom and cultural diversity.
