In remembrance of two murdered journalists in Mali the United Nations (UN) initiated the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists on November 02, 2025. It is being recognized since 2013. Every year many journalists are attacked, abused, tortured or killed.
The International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists can be seen as a request to all the member states of the UN to work against the still far spread habit of impunity for crimes against journalists. The countries are asked to take concrete action. The safety of journalists has to be protected as they are doing the important job of informing the whole world about what is going on in conflict areas for example.
