International Day of Parliamentarism 2025

The International Day of Parliamentarism, observed on June 30, 2025, was established by the United Nations in 2018 to annually commemorate the founding of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in 1889. The day emphasizes the role of parliaments in representing the people, enacting laws, and holding governments accountable.

In a time when trust in political institutions is waning, International Day of Parliamentarism provides an opportunity for parliaments to reflect on their progress toward inclusivity and transparency. Special attention is given to increasing women’s participation and adapting to technological advancements to strengthen democratic governance.
