The International Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims takes place on the 24th of March in 2025. The United Nations initiated this day in 2010 in honor of the archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero who was assassinated in San Salvador on this date in 1980.
The archbishop was against the military regime at that time and a supporter of the rights of the suppressed, for justice and for the compliance of human rights. So he was shot while he was saying Mass by an assassin. That was the cause of a civil war in El Salvador. That is the incident the International Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims refers to.
