Independence Day in Croatia is celebrated on October 08, 2025. In 1991 the Croatian Parliament decided to terminate constitutional ties with Yugoslavia. The national public holiday commemorates the independence from Yugoslavia. Croatia was one of the six republics that formed Yugoslavia as part of the Austria-Hungarian Empire. In 1990 the Socialist Republic of Croatia was transformed into the Republic of Croatia. In the independence referendum in 1991, 93% of the Croatians voted for the independence, which was declared on June 25, 1991. Due to a three-month moratorium as a result of the Brijuni Agreement, the ties with Yugoslavia were severed on October 08.
