From August 24 to September 01, 2025 Burning Man takes place in the US state Nevada. The eight days of festival in the Black Rock Desert, about 150 kilometers in the Northeast of Reno, end traditionally on the first Monday in September, which is Labor Day, a public holiday. The highlight of the festival is the burning of the statue called burning man, on the sixth day of the event. Actually Burning Man is both, an arts exhibition and party.
The Burning Man Festival had been brought into being in 1986 by Larry Harvey and back then took place in San Francisco with only 20 participants. When in 1990 the burning of that statue got prohibited on the until then traditional beach, the hole festival moved into the Nevada desert. The festival grew to a huge annual event with more than 70,000 people and the statue is growing bigger each year. There is a temporary city arising in the desert, of which there won’t be anything left to see after the festival is over.
