Bataan Day or Day of Valor is observed on April 09, 2025. The Filipino name is Araw ng Kagitingan, also known as Corregidor Day and it is a non-working holiday in the Philippines. This national observance commemorates the fall of Bataan in 1942. Bataan is a province in the Philippines which had been occupied by the Japanese army during World War II. Together with the US forces the Filipino forces fought the Japanese but after three months of fighting and the retreat of General Arthur Bataan has fallen.
On Bataan Day people also commemorate the ten thousands of Filipino and American victims who were forced into the so called Bataan Death March. Many did not survive the physical abuses during the forced 60 miles march from Mariveles to San Fernando, which has later been considered a Japanese war crime.
