Baltic Freedom Day 2025

June 14, 2025 in the USA

On June 14, 2025 is Baltic Freedom Day. That day was officially proclaimed by the 40th president of the USA, Ronald W. Reagan, on June 14 in 1982. It commemorates June 14 in 1941. During World War II the Soviet Union received three Baltic States from Nazi-Germany at free disposal, in order to ensure the Soviet’s support in the future. That treaty is known as the Soviet-Nazi Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.

Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania then got occupied by Russian settlers who overtook their houses and all their goods. The people were deported, brought to labor camps or died in prison. Many of those people and their descendants came to live in the USA, so Reagan initiated Baltic Freedom Day so that people would not forget about that tragedy.
