Commemoration Day for the Fatalities in Pre-Deportation Detention is observed on 30. August 2025. This day had been introduced as a national commemoration day in 2002 from the human rights organization Pro Asyl. Kola Bankole choke inside the plane that deported him because of the gag from the Federal Border Guard. In 1999 Rachid Sbaai died of smoke poisoning because his mattress in the detention cell of the deportation prison caught fire and the ambulance only came 15 minutes later. One year later it was Altankhou Dagwasoundels who died while he tried to flee from the 6th floor of a hospital, using knotted bed linens.
